Public Complaint

Rama Police Service members are expected to act with honesty and integrity and not abuse the extraordinary powers and authority they are granted. Members are also expected to treat others with respect and to act in a manner that does not discredit or undermine public confidence in the police service.

Ten acts considered as potential matters for investigation and possible discipline:

-Discreditable conduct
-Insubordination
-Neglect of duty
-Deceit
-Breach of confidence
-Corrupt practice
-Unlawful or unnecessary exercise of authority
-Damage to (police) clothing or equipment
-Consumption of drugs or alcohol in a manner prejudicial to duty
-Conspiring, abetting or being an accessory to misconduct
You may file a complaint about a police officer if you:

-Have a concern or were offended by something a police officer(s) said or did to you and were directly affected by the incident;
-Were a witness to an incident involving a police officer(s) that concerned or offended you;
-Are acting on behalf of an individual personally known/related to you; for example, a member of an organization who has been given written permission to make a complaint on another’s behalf (this person is known as an agent);
-Have a complaint that the police service has not provided proper service;
-Have a complaint about a policy of the police service

You may also visit the station in person and request a Complaint Form to complete and submit to the Chief of Police.

The Act also allows individuals to make privacy complaints should they believe a member of a police service has violated their privacy right. Contact the Information and Privacy Commissioner’s office at (416) 326-3333 or 1-800-387-0073 or TTY 416-325-7539 regarding the complaint procedure or visit http://www.ipc.on.ca/.

About Freedom of Information Requests

The Municipal Freedom of Information and Protection Act also enable individuals to correct personal information or attach a statement of disagreement to a record held by the police. Should you wish to exercise this right, please contact Rama Police Service Freedom of Information Coordinator for further assistance.

Access/Correction Request Form

Requests in Person:

Requests may be made in person at the Records counter of the Rama Police Service, 7450 Williams Road, Rama, Ontario or via mail.

All requests must be in writing, either by application form or by letter, accompanied by a $5.00 application fee. Payments may be made in person by cash, cheque, or money order. Payments may be made in the mail by cheque or money order payable to Chippewas of Rama First Nation.  Photo identification must also be provided at the time of the request.
