Community Services Coordinator & Communications
POSITION:
Full-Time – Civilian Position
1 Year maternity leave contract with possible extension
PURPOSE:
The Community Services Coordinator & Communications (CSCC) member would perform low risk tasks that do not require the training or experience as a sworn officer. The CSCC member will be responsible to provide ongoing communications to the public while showcasing the Rama Police Service (RPS) through community events and functions. The CSCC member will be responsible in managing the media relations content of the RPS social media accounts and other platforms of communication. The CSCC member will provide continued community programing and organized structured educational crime prevention to enhance the community relations with Rama Police Service.
This position may be required to work some weekends.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
1.Works in consultation with the members of the Rama Police Service to develop and implement communication strategies for internal and external messaging.
2.Works in consultation with the Chief of Police or designate in the development and implementation of community services programming, including education initiatives that support crime prevention and the prevention of re-victimization, traffic safety, youth and senior initiatives, and broader community partnerships. Establishes and maintains strong networks and liaison with neighbouring police organizations to support coordinated, collaborative approaches to community safety and service delivery
3.Acts as resource to the members of the Rama Police in coordinating and organizing the participation of members with community events.
4.Participates in media relations by supporting the Rama Police Service through ongoing media relation matters, including the preparation, review, and critique of news releases by developing ongoing key messaging.
5.Manages and monitors the social media accounts associated to the Rama Police Service by drafting content for publishing and posting.
6.Maintains and manages the Rama Police Service website by modifying and editing the content of information, along with the removal of obsolete material.
7.Assist the members in in preparing media releases, media/community events.
8.To enhance the community safety and well-being of the Chippewas of Rama First Nation community and surrounding area.
9.To enhance the community safety and well-being of the youth within the educational school setting.
10.Other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Preference will be given to but not restricted to applicants who possess training and experience in the following areas:
•Minimum grade 12 Ontario Secondary School Diploma or equivalent.
•College diploma in related field or other considered an asset.
•Proficiency in Microsoft Office software applications.
•Must possess a valid class G Ontario Driver Licence.
•Ability to maintain confidentiality and Must be prepared to take an Oath/Affirmation of Office & Secrecy.
•Must be of good moral character, no criminal record and must pass a background check.
•Must provide a signed Rama Police Consent to Security Clearance Investigation Form, which is included in application package.
•Must provide a Vulnerable Sector Screening Check.
•Experience developing and delivering culturally appropriate programs and services.
•Excellent written & oral communication skills to share and document information in a clear, concise, and objective manner.
•Knowledge of policing and public safety; priorities and trends in First Nations policing across Canada.
•Knowledge of First Nations cultures and traditions.
•Excellent organizational skills with the ability to prioritize tasks, be self-initiating and manage time well.
•Willingness to participate in relevant training.
